About the Cheshire County Bowling Association

Aims of the Association

We run several competitions for Cheshire bowlers:

We also enter senior and junior teams in the BCGBA county competition.

The dates of these competitions (and other events) for the 2012 season are now available.

The closing date for entries is 4 May.

Bowls Development

Tony Bryning is the county’s Chief Development Officer. He has published his report for 2012:

During the winter months I have been involved in assisting Stockport Council in making a grant application concerning Alexandra Park and the three bowling greens situated in the park. The main aim is the fencing off of the greens to counterattack vandals, footballers, dog walkers and people lighting barbecues on the greens. Other grant aims are improved catering facilities and toilets.

The Stockport council have also funded our coaching programme in the parks again. This has enabled the Stockport Bowls Development Group to add another school to the list of those being coached.  The group has also made contact with the local Residents' Association who wish to fund a summer coaching course for children in the park.

The Congleton Women’s Institute has asked to have a B.C.G.B.A. Coaching Seminar for 24 bowlers, with a further 24 to follow. This will take place at Chelford F.B.C in May. There is a course at Heswall R.B.L for 24 Bowlers.

Any clubs interested in a coaching session please contact Sheila Bryning on 01625 874044 for more information. The course runs from 10am to 3.30pm and covers all aspects of bowling, including video coaching to spot any faults and point out your good points. You need a minimum of twelve bowlers and a maximum of 24. If need be two clubs could get together to make up the numbers.
